Sunday 26th Feb 2012, Portland

I did not think I would get a swim in today...

... but Church Ope Cove in the sunshine was irresistible...

... and despite the long break (its been almost a month)  it was no problem getting in at all, just sheer joy at being in the sea again, in the sun with crystal clear, calm, cool water... brief but blissful.

Visit Cornwall mini film

It's not our usual strategy, but I'm posting this video because I think it's an almost perfect mini film. Good work Visit Cornwall! And bring on the summer.

ps sooner or later, there'll be some actual swimming on this blog! MG

Cakes and Swimming

Feeling depressed at being stuck in London away from the healing balm of the icy waves, I went to cheer myself up at the amazing London Review of Books cafe (with in fact, friend of the blog RL) where not only did they have the best rose and pistacio cake I have ever eaten in my life but also an entire window display of swimming books! It was almost as if they knew I was coming....

A Taste of Chlorine - I don't know anything about this, SW? But beady eyes will spot namesake Charles Sprawson, hero Roger Deakin and spirit guide Daniel Start. Not in the window is this beautiful jacket I saw elsewhere yesterday.

Back in Dorset at the weekend, so fingers crossed for some calm, cold conditions.

sea frozen in Dorset

Amazingly this photo was taken at Sandbanks in Dorset yesterday (from BBC News) although the sea temp here in West Dorset is supposed to still be a relatively balmy six deg...

Fri 3rd Feb 2012, west bay

At last some cold weather. Unfortunately I have gone soft or am missing the motivational push of MG who is stuck in London. West Bay looks absolutely beautiful and the shallow parts of the harbour are covered in huge moving sheets of ice.

The sea is flat calm and inviting but knowing that its only 11 degrees in the house I cant risk getting cold with no way to warm up. For once I wish I had central heating (I came to west bay the long way round so I could spend longer in the car, warming up, a bit sad!)
